I haven’t been a good friend.

She winced as her words tripped into the world

Words she had thought so many times before,

But never believed she would admit to their intended audience.

I never call when I think of you,

She continued

I rarely even text.

I make plans to send you birthday gifts, and holiday cards,

But I never follow through

And it weighs on me.

And even now,

I use the words I and me

As I discuss how I have let down you
